Diary: Dartmoor

We've been away a couple of days on Dartmoor. Just coinciding with a cold snap which brought icy northern winds, hail and snow showers.

Here are some pictures - click on an image to make it larger.

Clare and Alex stagger up to the pub after a bracing walk on Dartmoor

The river at Bovey Tracey. Looks pleasant because you can't photograph the wind.

View from the gardens at the unimpressive Castle Drogo folly: currently surrounded by scaffolding.

The dimly-lit library in Castle Drogo. This set of windows above -
used to illuminate the (inaccessible) kitchens - reminded me of a Cray-1.

Despite its reputation, we found Dartmoor paths pretty dry after weeks without rain. This did not stop Alex almost succumbing to hypothermia after yesterday's storms (he was out on the moors all day) while on Monday I tried a short cut wading across a bog and discovered the hard way why the Dartmoor National Park people put in boardwalks.
